We are seeking a motivated, technically-minded mid-level Power Electronic Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team.
About the role
In this role, you will be designing AC and DC power systems.
For this part of the role the following tasks are essential:
- On-time preparation of high-quality, error-free drawings, calculations, BOMs, battery arrangements, special assembly and test instructions.
- Maintain live BOM to ensure accurate job costing and purchasing through DBA.
- Continually working to standardise schematics and all new products.
- Design and engineer solutions to clients’ custom requests.
- Liaison with client in the design of their equipment and provide feedback to the sales staff.
- Provide timely technical assistance to clients.
- Sourcing of non-standard components.
- Ensuring adherence to up-to-date standards.
- Effective participation in product development to ensure R&D projects can be produced cost-effectively.
- Produce the most effective QA procedures for the production of all engineering documentation.
- Continuous effort to increase the quality of engineering documentation and reduce reengineering
- Provide engineering support to subsidiaries.
- Design and improvement of enclosures in liaison with engineering and production managers.
- Design and improvement of test gear in liaison with engineering and production managers.
- Analyse and report on field service defects, customer complaints and initiation of corrective action.
- Ensuring incoming special goods from suppliers meet quality requirements.
- Production and implementation of all special inspection and testing procedures.
- Participation in all engineering meetings.
- Participating in all contract review meetings held for incoming manufacturing orders.
- Keep the engineering area neat, clean and free of safety hazards.
- Reporting any possible safety hazards.
- Works additional hours to meet deadlines when required.

Experience and Skills
You must have experience or skills in the following:
- Microprocessor control and PLC control programming.
- Experience in designing: Uninterruptible Power Supply, Battery Chargers, Batteries - Lead Acid and Lithium, Battery Management Systems
- Designing electrical boards to component level and developing interface with display screens.
- Preparing detailed and accurate design documentation and engineering specifications.
- Strong computer and programming skills for embedded microprocessor systems. ( C++ environment)
- Experience with AC and DC motors and controls is a plus.
- Strong knowledge in the use of electronic testing equipment; oscilloscopes, voltmeters, power supplies and the like.
- Experience with renewable energy and storage systems.
- Experience in project management, or management of a team.
- Experience in dealing with customers and handling communication between customers and the internal team.
- Must have at least 2-3 years solid experience in a similar role
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Electronic Engineering or Power Electronic Engineering.
- Experience in Solidworks (advantage)
- Experience in AutoCAD (essential).
